It was the one movie that I had seen closest to the reality. Ever sinceI saw the short film "How to mess up in LOVE", I was surprised by theway the director etched up such a cute complete story in just 8-9minutes. Even i was passionate about movies and always wanted to makeone but it never happened. The film maker in me felt inspired seeingthat short film and wished all my best luck for Balaji Mohan and I feltit actually worked when I heard his upcoming movie with Siddarth asKadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi in Tamil and LOVE Failure in Telugu. Thedirection of the movie, if its not what you call Awesome, I really haveno idea what else to call it!! The performances are very natural fromSiddarth, heroine and everyone else. The casting just looks perfect!! Aperfect trend setting cinematic style with a novel screenplay is whatI'd call it :)
In this competitive world, its tough for a though talented, to fine anopportunity in this fashion, skin or whatever you name...simply filmindustry, but here is a go to the director known for his short movies, has bought a life into the story that you travel all along daily. Whenyou sit mocking to the movie initially as the title appears, there is afresh aroma that depicts right away. A real applaud to Sid, for taking up an initiative in producing a lowbudget movie with great production values, script, screenplay, casting, whatever way that needs to be in a real authenticate film. A simple movie without exaggeration, have a coke or coffee and enjoythe show.
REally wonderful job done by balaji mohan. The movie actually brief ofhis short film which is titled same.though he corrected his mistakeswhich he made in his short film. The movie starts with conversation between a boy and girl from thattill ends the movie entertains all age of peoples. Each and every sceneremains u r past love life.Really u guys would feel the story as Ur ownstory which is happened for u.short and simple dialog wont bore at any cost.well clearscreenplay.short and sweet ever.Best entertainer.it makes u lough, feel and atlast makes u smile while u get out of themovie.
There are a lots of things happening in college despite all those howon earth do people see that part of the life alone? There is somethingcalled semesters, semester practicals for a stupid mark we have do alot of stuffs, the movie was good as a short movie but in a 2hr lengthit seemed to me like a small picture being stretched to fit aswallpaper in our desktop, it would have been nice in the way it was. weought to go through a lot of awful stuffs during our college times butwhy is it so all the movie picturing college always focuses on "LOVE"?If people want a fast moving interesting movie and focus college whydon't they take a movie on the way take up our assignment and internaltests, I am not against any "LOVE" but is that the only thing happeningin college? I have never seen anything of whatsoever during my collegedays.
This film deals with typical city-born youth love story. A romanticcomedy film is based on a nine minute short film of the same name andit is directed by Balaji Mohan who made debut as a director in Tamilwith Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi 2012. It tells us the story ofurban youth love that gets messed up for mere reasons. It was made intwo languages simultaneously, in both Tamil and Telugu. The story opens with a lead role Arun (Siddharth) who is an engineeringcollege student who shares his love experience to the audience. Arunand Parvathy (Amala Paul) who met in college and they have apparentlyfall in love. After sometime later they break up. A misunderstandingand ego conflict causes them to separate and go in differentdirections. Further the film reveals the consequences between themthrough the journey of funny narrative structure. And finally itreveals how they get back together. Direction, screenplay, performance, music score, and cinematography hasbeen just an average effort. A débutant director Balaji Mohan has donea good job, his narration is a different treatment and quite innovativein this industry, but after sometime especially the second half of thefilm turns into a dragging screenplay and a narration struggle tomaintain its own essence and also facing conflicts towards theencounter of the climax. So his different treatment becomes repetitiousbeyond a point. It will be better if he has been avoiding theserepetitions on screen. Particularly the essence of nine minute shortfilm is getting diluted by dragging it into a two hour feature. A greatdisappointment from Nirav Shah's cinematography, it's just an averageeffort. The lead cast Siddharth and Amala Paul both have done a goodjob but their performance is obvious on screen. Their charmingperformance is overtaken by the inexpert supporting cast who they havedone a great job (especially Siddharth friends such as Vignesh(Vignesh) and Shiva (Arjun). The comical way of approach tocharacterization has made the film quite more interesting. And thecharacter's personalities and their true nature are completely revealedin scenes. Only the supporting roles and their typical youngstersdialogue from the narrative, which has been the backbone of thesuccess. Result: Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi? Is a good romantic comedy /drama with emotional conflicts, love, ego, romance, funny moments, twists, sentiments, thoughts, friendship, etc. This film is quite aninteresting to watch on screen, and it's worth watching. This is really different film, whole story is narrated by Siddharthawhich is new but still leads to boring. Film will give clear idea whylove fails and how to compromise to make love success. Pro's: Siddhartha is looking good and action is nice as usual. Amalapaul is good in few scenes and not in few scenes without make-up.Acting wise hero-in is not up to the mark, dubbing given to heroinevoice is easily make it out.Con's: Boring Narration even though Siddhartha's voice is good. Wholemovie is running behind love failure concept. Comedy is missing.Freshness in scenes is missing which we expect from Siddhartha's movie.
Are you in Love? Do you want to fall in love? Or else you just don'twant to fall in love but want to know about love? Before seekingknowledge about LOVE, understand one ground rule, BOYS CAN NEVERUNDERSTAND GIRLS. When this rule is underlined and understoodcompletely, then there is no need to explain what love (especially forboys). Love is all about understanding girls and what they want. Andthat is the USP of Siddharth's latest film which hit the screens. "LOVEFAILURE" which has been produced by Siddharth himself on his EtakiEntertainments banner and is directed by, Balaji Mohan who earlier madesome short films on similar theme. One peep into the film, you will know why is everyone (almost, if I amright) are talking about this one. Love Failure is all about Arun(Siddharth) talking about his breakup with Parvati (Amala Paul) and thereasons for their break up and subsequent patch up. In between we areserved with break up of several other couples, some young, some aboutto get married and some in the middle-age of their lives.Rather than the story, it is the screenplay which makes all thedifference for this film. The Director just makes the hero talk to theaudience and present his case of understandings and misunderstandings.Through the journey of Arun, in which he touches the lives of Cathy andJohn, Parvati's parents (Suresh and Surekha Vani) and his own friendVignesh, he makes us relate to our own stories and our own failures. Each and every moment of love-life relies on a thin balance and if thatbalance tilts, failure is just around the corner. Perhaps, there is noother relation in the world which is as brittle as a glass other thanthe relation of loving each other. Gaining the trust of the partner andmaintaining that trust and understanding the emotional needs of theother is the basis on which the foundation of love rests. The more youexperience Failure in Love, the more you learn about life and evolve asan individual. That is the essence and message of "Love Failure".Balaji Mohan gave such a wonderful treat with such guts, that onedoesn't feel the need for any songs and there are none in the secondhalf till the climax happens. That is the beauty of Love Failure, it isconventionally unconventional. A refreshing change in cinema, considering the recent films which ask you to leave your brains andheart at home. Balaji Mohan's debut is noteworthy as more can beexpected of him in way of story telling techniques which would be newto Indian cinema.Siddharth has certain boyish quality about him which makes us believehim to be that college going boy. He has by now should have masteredthe way of walking through these roles but Sid just manages toimpresses us time and again with his dialogue delivery and confusedexpressions, thanks to the freshness in the screenplay and the scenes.Amala Paul is going to be the talked about girl after this film. Finally there is an actress who can act than just remain beautiful.Amala essayed the role of Parvati with such conviction that she may berechristened as Parvati in real life. It was the most commendableperformance by an actress in recent times on Telugu screen. She makes agood pair for Siddharth and she has some depth in her characterizationwith her family life in shambles with her parents going for a divorce. She brings out those subtle variations admirably which augur well forher future. The supporting cast of Suresh, Surekha Vani did well. One should saythat Suresh really emoted well in some scenes which do not have aprecedent (in my knowledge) in Southern cinema. The guys who have actedas friends for Siddharth did good job of evoking laughter through theiracts. The technical departments are great with Nirav P Shah claiming creditfor the cinematography whereas TS Suresh with his scissors. But wasthis really SS Thaman who gave music for the film? He sounded sodifferent and it is refreshing to note that this music director has somuch of variation. Thaman proved to all his critics that he can giverefreshing musical score. His background score really manages the movienicely. The onus now is on the directors of Tollywood to get the bestof this guy.And finally, a word of appreciation to Siddharth as a producer and hisproduction team. You did a great job of sticking to your judgmentdespite facing lots and lots of criticism and negative vibes which werespread in the market. You gave a great film, might be urbane but veryidentifiable to anyone and everyone. Whatever might be the box-officefate of the film, I shall just say 'thank you' for well spent 2 hoursin the film and this thanks comes from me as a viewer than a reviewer.Check this review at www.cinemaya-bazaar.com
I had no expectations and was not disappointed so i ll advice you thesame. the first 10-15 mins of the movie are, i think the best part ofthe movie with nice direction and comedy. the creativity shown in thatpart of the movie is lost slowly as the movie continues. let me firstpoint out the good things about the movie: 1. there are not manyuseless boring songs. 2. a little bit of comedy at times. 3. niceportrayal of family values. now the bad things(according to me): 1.amala paul reminded me of priyanka chopra in kaminey with same hairstyle and dressing style. and no other shades of her were shown. she isgenerally good looking but was not in the movie. 2. sidharth had noscope to show his talent. 3. story....... 4. boring at times especiallyin second half. 5. nothing new. 6. most of the times i was thinking hwthis part could have been done better..... so on the whole its a noteven time paas movie.....

Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu eppadi, if you don't know by now, is a 9 minshort film with the same name which received positive reviews and hasbeen expanded into a 2 hour movie. The short film is on youtube and canbe viewed here.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tRSi-j7z8WkThe storyline is nothing new. Men are from Mars and Women are fromVenus. They are so different in the way they think that they can neverbe made for each other. Good relationships happen only when bothpartners understand this and make compromises. One must give credit toBalaji however for the fresh script and a different way of narration. While it might be easier to come up with a short film and make animpact, I think it is very difficult to blow it into a 2 hour moviewithout blowing up. I also liked the way the heroine's parents failingmarriage and its resurrection was weaved into the story.Sidharth might have crossed 30 but doesn't really look a misfit as acollege student. His antics really suit the college boy Arun whoconstantly messes up in love and keeps lamenting to the audience. AmalaPaul as Paaru is cute and impresses as a college girl who is unsettledby her Parents failing marriage and struggles to understand her loveinterest Arun and ends up pouring all her emotional tantrums on him.All other characters including the friends and the hero and heroine'sparents have done a good job. The music by Taman is really good andthere are 2 songs which appeal - Paarvathi Paarvathi and Azhaippaya.Anyone who has fallen in love or is married can appreciate the viewpoints presented in the movie. Humour in the movie is not artificialand is woven into the storyline. The hero's friends are all new faces, thank god there are no old comedians coming as college students! Thereare some really interesting anecdotes shared in the movie likecomparing girls to a monalisa picture in the museum and saying fromwhatever direction you look it looks like the picture / girl is lookingat you. Showing a waterfall every time a girl is about to cry was cute. The movie does have some minor downsides. The film I thought goes intoa tad too many examples of friends messing up which I think could havebeen avoided. Asking several people for opinion and hero frequentlytalking to audience might be good in a short film but too many suchinstances in a movie make it sound like a documentary on love at times. In the second half , the hero goes on a trip to Pondicherry with hisfriends which I feel been could have been made a bit more crisp. The movie does not have a different story as such but it is a freshpresentation from a team of youngsters and is worth a watch.
M. Balaji has made some awesome short films. I absolutely love hiswork. He kinda makes you feel that it is you he's talking about. LoveFailure is one such short film, unfortunately, one which is dragged formore than two hours. If you've seen his work before, there nothing newthe film has to offer. He's got a couple of episodes from Mittai Veedu, and the rest is an extended version of the original nine minuteKadhalil Sothapuvathu Eppedi. He's even got most of the cast reprisingtheir roles.Siddharth is good in the leading role and really tries hard to woo you.Amala Paul is decent to look at, although I kinda felt her to be outtaplace. The dialogues are brilliant, music is decent, and directionspot- on. However, the draggy never-ending story pulls the film down.First half is pacy and the second half makes you yawn. The biggestblunder, at least for me, is that the film actually ain't about lovefailure; it's about infatuation failure. (I say that with a lot ofexperience. If this is love, then, argh, nevermind!!)It's got its moments in abundant and reminds you about yourself azillion times. But Love Failure fails to create the magic. It's more ofa teenage love story (infatuation) with a predictable ending, and looksmore like a youtube film than a commercial feature film. Bottom-line,it's not something you need to run to the theaters for, nevertheless, adecent watch.
"Kathalil Sodhapuvathu Yeppadi" (KSY) is as pleasant & heart-warming asthe short film of the same name on which this movie is based on made bythe same director Balaji Mohan. How to mess up in love is a pertinentquestion for many youngsters today & the writer-director has tried tofind answer in a pragmatic way in his debut feature film. Movie hasmany incidents which might ring a bell in most of us , those who are inlove , those who were in love & would interest also who might fall inlove. This alone in enough for it to turn eye balls towards it & createwaves in the Box-office.The narrative style is so fresh which strikes a chord with audienceright away. Almost all the scenes from the short film are re-enactedhere as well with the same amounts of finesse & charm. The casual wayof telling the story coupled with plenty of witty scenes makes thescreenplay work. Though there are instances where one might feel thescreenplay is trying to meander away from the course & in couple otherit does lags a bit, these are only minor deviations on the largelysmooth & lucid screenplay. Dialogues are witty & intelligent at the same time sound so casual.Balaji should be lauded for this because it is very difficult to writelines on this subject without trying to be preachy. Except for coupleof instances towards the end where some dialogs get monotonous, on thewhole dialogs are too good & enjoyable.Casting & performances of the cast is also faultless . Siddarth fits inperfectly in the role of the engineering student who falters repeatedlyin love . Amala Paul has also acted well in the role of thetemperamental lover girl though one still might wish Regina who did theshort film could have been retained. Arjun is damn hilarious with histiming as well as in his demeanor. Vignesh , Pooja , Suresh , RaviRaghavender , Shyam & Balaji does neat supporting jobs.Nirav Shah has tried something new this time. He has managed to bringin the short-filmish flavor but at the same time not stooping down tothe level of amateurishness of the short-films. In Thaman's music "Parvathy, Parvathy" is delightful dance number while"Azhaipaya azhaipaya" is a nice melody as does "Thavarugal Unargirom" .Background score is also done with the flavor of the movie in mind &has come out well.Balaji Mohan is a promising find for Tamil cinema while KSY wouldfinally launch Siddarth in Tamil Cinema & for Amala Paul , shecontinues with her merry ways in the Box-office.On the whole , "KSY" is a perfect outing for the Valentine season.Bottomline : Thoroughly enjoyable
